Baseline Quiz Analysis

Now that you have completed the baseline activity and received your results, lets take a closer look at some of the methodological reasoning for the design of each part of the quiz form:

Part One: Pre-quiz

This section gives you an opportunity to predict your score prior to having seen any of the questions that make up the assessment. This provides valuable data to measure against once you have finished the subsequent quiz on the video.

Our research group at North Carolina State University is studying metacognition and calibration in the geosciences in addition to effect of these videos have in the teaching of these topics. Though we would need other provisions and controls to make significant conclusions regarding the data you provide, we still ask for permission to consider your responses towards this end.

Part Two: Quiz

The quiz questions come from the designed assessments that accompany the Geoscience Videos resources and are aligned with the learning objectives of each video.

This Likert-style bar gives you an opportunity to consider your level of confidence on each question of the quiz which, once calculated and considered, provide you some metacognitive awareness regarding your mastery of the concepts addressed in the video

Part Three: Post-quiz

Finally, the post-quiz approximation gives you an opportunity to reflect on your performance and think about your generalized confidence regarding the quiz. This, though similar on the surface, is a different form of metacognitive approximation from either the prediction or the question-by-question confidence approximation as it has you considering your performance in aggregate after having interacted with the quiz.

Comparing these three important metrics of your confidence vs. your performance on the quiz will give you a detailed picture of your ability to think metacognitively.
